Stage 2 :: Project Specification
The next stage in the process of your new website is 'project specification'.
This covers each and every item needed for the website including
web server hosting, site plans, web applications, licences and bespoke coding to
name but a few.
Also at this stage, timescales and a target launch date are planned
and calculated. Accurate planning at this early stage can very often
highlight a potential problem weeks or months in advance. You know what they say about failing to plan...
For larger projects a timescale plan is produced, sent to you and updated regularly. This lists all tasks
of the project with time, some with milestones and each with a deadline.
It's also worth mentioning that your tasks and resource requirements
are included on this plan. For the website to launch on schedule and to
budget, we will need key items from you - images perhaps, pdf
documents etc. This will take your resources and inclusions of your
resource requirements which will assist with your own planning.
Good project planning is undertaken for one key reason - to work to
deliver your project on time and on budget in an open and transparent
way.
Site Plans
One or more site plans will be created for your website before any programming or designing is undertaken.
A site plan outlines the structure of the website, or sections of it, in a
quick and easy to follow format. Items likely to be displayed on the site-plan
are:
» Homepage
» Main Navigation
» Sub Pages
» Database interactivity
» Secure, password protected areas
Site plans will be submitted to you for approval and amended as necessary before progressing.
Now that we have a good idea of the website structure, navigation elements, etc. we can move on to the next stage.
